About WR-Games

The Central Hub for Local Play — Connect with local board game groups and events in your city.

Why I Built WR-Games

I'm Roderick — I've been organizing board game meetups since 2021, originally out of my apartment complex (don't tell the property manager). I currently run two groups — a limited public group and a private group — and I've hosted over 400 events on Meetup with over 2,000 plays logged.

For a long time, we were living out of a WhatsApp chat (we still do) and a Meetup group. When Meetup raised their prices, I looked at what I was actually getting and it wasn't worth it for my needs. My private group still had all its events listed publicly. None of it was themed for what I wanted, and there was no way to confirm if someone who signed up to attend one of my events was actually coming — or if they were one of the new users who signs up and never logs in again.

Meetup is still great for finding people — especially board gamers — and I've stuck with it for that. But I realized with the recent progress in AI tools, it was finally time to build the platform I've always wanted as an organizer. More features, better privacy controls, and pricing that doesn't punish you for running a community.

What Makes WR-Games Different

Roll Call — Know Who's Actually Coming

This one's my favorite. If you're an organizer, you know the pain — people cancel the day of or an hour before a preplanned event. Nobody in our industry is shocked by that anymore.

Roll Call changes that. It triggers four hours before your event and asks attendees if they still plan on coming. If someone backs out, their seat opens up for the waitlist automatically. You know you're having game night with the right number of people before it even starts. No more texting, no more chasing confirmations.

Trust & Reliability

WR-Games helps organizers and attendees build trust with each other. Reputation rewards consistent community participation. Trust scores are based on real attendance behavior — so organizers can see who reliably shows up. Predictive attendance gives you a heads-up on how likely your RSVPs are to actually attend.

We don't go into the details of how we calculate these because this is our Krabby Patty Secret Formula — but they're built from real patterns to help you plan better game nights.

Real Privacy for Real Groups

Not all board game groups are public, and not all groups are created equally. WR-Games has three visibility types: Public, Private, and Hidden.

Private groups show in the directory, but events and member data stay members-only. Hidden groups don't show in the directory at all — everything still works, you still see your group events, you're just siloed for your privacy. No more fighting a platform that wants to make everything public.

Event Management Built for Game Nights

Create and manage events with RSVP tracking, automatic waitlists, capacity controls, recurring event series, co-host support, bringing lists, post-event reviews, kudos, discussion threads, and local weather forecasts. Duplicate past events to set up your next game night in seconds. I know that's a lot, but our FAQ pages will help you.

Group Tools That Actually Scale

Run your group your way — membership approval and configuration, custom roles and permissions, announcements, welcome messages, a built-in forum, group chat, polls, a schedule finder, a shared game library with lending support, and group analytics.

BoardGameGeek Integration

Sync your BGG collection directly into WR-Games with automatic folders. Browse a filterable game directory by player count, complexity, play time, and more. Heart your favorite games and get notified when they show up at upcoming events.

Venue Directory

Everyone knows the struggle of finding a place to host your board game group. Find and explore local game-friendly venues on a searchable map. Filter by type and amenities, view hours and details, and see which upcoming events are hosted there.

Smart Discovery

Find what's happening near you. City-scoped directories for events, groups, games, and venues with geo-localized search, nearby recommendations, and filters to find exactly what you're looking for.

Divvy — Table Assignment Tool

Assign players to tables before game night. Solo mode lets hosts plan locally. QR Session mode lets players scan in and join a live room for real-time table assignments.

Plans & Pricing

WR-Games offers tiered plans for organizers, including a free tier. Fine-tuned for group management and board games. Visit our pricing page for full details on what's included.

For Organizers Thinking About Making the Switch

I get it — why move an established group from Meetup or (shoutout to Aftertable) to a new platform? Why take that risk?

Here's how I see it: Meetup is never going to give us the features we need. They're too big and they cater across the board. WR-Games is built for board gamers, and my goal is to give you all the features you need. And at the worst, you can turn off anything you don't use.

It's going to be a while before we have the traffic that Meetup has, and I understand the fear of missing out on new board gamers. But it takes time. WR-Games is the guaranteed way to secure your board game group community — even on our free plans.

We're Just Getting Started

WR-Games is currently in early access beta with groups in Washington, DC. The board game industry hasn't seen a lot of new platforms since the AI wave — and we're excited to change that.

We have big plans ahead. The site was built for board game groups, but we've got features that any community organizer would love. Where it goes from here depends on demand — but at the worst, even if it's just me and my group on the site, I no longer depend on Meetup. And that's already a win.

Anyone can join — even outside of DC. Just be patient as you may not see much activity in your area yet. We're growing, and your city could be next.
